Reality is crazy lately, right? Between volatility with many major governments, it feels like everyone either hates The Current Guy or The One Before. And, many AI scientists are predicting Real Bad Stuff if we don't slow down. Ditto with nervous academics demanding more research is needed before we deploy SRM. So, what's at stake?

Didn't we prove Ned and friends wrong? Technology is the application of science; one might argue it's the main thing humanity should be doing. It's doubled our life expectancy, allowed magic pocket tablets connected to most knowledge, and is now showing a path to eliminating most bullshit jobs... + cooling the planet.ย

This isn't an acid trip: we can't get off this bus. Make no mistake: calls for moratoriums on data centers and solar geoengineering might be well-intentioned, but they will result in needless human suffering. Every day someone sits in an automatable job they hate, any denied application to build density, each extinction from a climate we've engineered into imbalance: these are things we can and should prevent. We must continue to apply science to advance humanity. To do any less is wrong, and each of us should create + work towards our positive visions of a prosperous future.
What's at stake? The future. It's ours to shape. We can choose to continue imposing shit jobs, artificial scarcity, and runaway warming on the world. Or, we can take responsibility for our actions by continuing to apply science towards improving the world.
Scientists can call it something else if they want; like it or not, we're in the Anthropocene. Let's make this a truly epic epoch:)
